A small pounamu stone that is the mystical heart of the goddess Te Fiti is stolen by the demigod Maui, who planned to give it to humanity as a gift. As Maui made his escape, he was attacked by the lava demon Te Kā, causing the heart to become lost in the ocean along with his magical fishhook that allows him to transform.
A millennium later, young Moana Waialiki, daughter and heir of a chief on the small Polynesian island of Motunui, is chosen by the ocean to receive the heart. Her father, Chief Tui, insists the island provides everything the villagers need. But years later, fish become scarce and the island's vegetation begins dying. Moana proposes going beyond the reef to find more fish. Tui rejects her request, as sailing beyond the reef is forbidden.
Moana's grandmother, Gramma Tala, shows Moana a secret cave behind a waterfall, where a fleet of outrigger sailing canoes show that their ancestors were seafarers. Tala gives Moana the heart of Te Fiti, which she has kept safe for her granddaughter ever since she was chosen by the ocean, and explains that the darkness unleashed by Maui's theft is now creeping onto the island.
Tala falls ill and with her dying breaths tells Moana to set sail. Moana and her pet chicken Heihei depart in a drua to find Maui. A manta ray, Tala's reincarnation, follows. After a typhoon wave flips her sailboat and knocks her unconscious, she awakens the next morning on an island inhabited by Maui, who traps her in a cave and takes her sailboat to search for his fishhook. After escaping and catching up to Maui with some help from the ocean, Moana tries to convince him to return the heart, but Maui refuses, fearing its power will attract dark creatures.
Almost immediately, sentient coconut pirates called Kakamora surround the boat and steal the heart, but Maui and Moana retrieve it. Maui agrees to help return the heart to Te Fiti, but only after he reclaims his hook, which is hidden in Lalotai, the Realm of Monsters, and held by Tamatoa, a giant coconut crab. They successfully retrieve it by tricking Tamatoa. Later, Maui teaches Moana how to properly sail and navigate. They arrive at Te Fiti, where Te Kā attacks. Maui is overpowered and Te Kā severely damages his hook and repels their boat far out to sea. Fearing that returning to fight Te Kā will destroy his hook, Maui abandons Moana.
Distraught, Moana begs the ocean to take the heart and choose another person to return it to Te Fiti. The spirit of Tala encourages Moana to find her true calling within herself. Moana retrieves the heart from the ocean and returns to Te Fiti. Maui, having had a change of heart, returns to distract the lava demon, and the hook is destroyed in the battle. Moana realizes that Te Kā is actually Te Fiti without her heart. Moana asks the ocean to clear a path for Te Kā to approach her. She sings a song and asks Te Kā to remember who she truly is, allowing Moana to restore her heart. Te Fiti returns and in gratitude, gives a new canoe to Moana and a new magical hook to Maui before returning to her island form.
Moana asks Maui to return to her island with her in order to teach her people how to sail again, but Maui smiles and replies that her people already have a master seafarer in Moana. Moana bids farewell to Maui and returns to her recovering island. Later, the villagers begin voyaging and set sail in search of new islands, as Maui and Tala accompany them in their giant hawk and manta ray forms, respectively.
In a post-credits scene, Tamatoa, stranded on his back during Moana and Maui's escape, grumbles that people would help him if he was a Jamaican crab named Sebastian.

Viy (2014 film)
Early 18th century cartographer Jonathan Green undertakes a scientific voyage from Western Europe to the East. Having passed throughTransylvania and crossed the Carpathian Mountains, he finds himself in a small village lost in impassable woods of Ukraine. Nothing but chance and heavy fog could bring him to this cursed place. People who live here do not resemble any other people which the traveler saw before that. The villagers, having dug a deep moat to fend themselves from the rest of the world, share a naive belief that they could save themselves from evil, failing to understand that evil has made its nest in their souls and is waiting for an opportunity to gush out upon the world.
Rouge One Star War Movie
Research scientist Galen Erso and his family are in hiding on the planet Lah'mu when Imperial weapons developer Orson Krennic arrives to press him into completing the Death Star, a space station-based superweaponcapable of destroying an entire planet. Galen's wife Lyra is killed in the confrontation, but their daughter Jyn escapes and is taken to safety byRebel extremist Saw Gerrera.
Fifteen years later, cargo pilot Bodhi Rook defects from the Empire, smuggling a holographic message from Galen to Gerrera on the desert moon of Jedha. Rebel intelligence officer Cassian Andor frees Jyn from an Imperial labor camp and brings her to the Rebel leaders, who convince her to rescue Galen so the Alliance can learn more about the Death Star. Unbeknownst to Jyn, Cassian is covertly ordered to kill Galen rather than extract him.
Jyn, Cassian, and reprogrammed Imperial droid K-2SO travel to Jedha, where the Empire is mining kyber crystals to power the Death Star while Gerrera and his partisans are engaged in an armed insurgency against them. With the aid of blind spiritual warrior Chirrut Îmwe and his mercenary friend Baze Malbus, Jyn makes contact with Gerrera, who has been holding Rook captive. Gerrera shows her the message, in which Galen reveals he has secretly built a vulnerability into the Death Star and directs them to retrieve the schematics from a high-security Imperial data bank on the planetScarif.
On the Death Star, Krennic orders a low-powered shot from the superlaser to destroy Jedha's capital, causing Jyn and her group to take Rook and flee the planet, but Gerrera chooses to remain and die. Grand Moff Tarkin congratulates Krennic before using Rook's defection and security leak as a pretext to take control of the project.
Rook leads the group to Galen's Imperial research facility on the planet Eadu, where Cassian chooses not to kill Galen. When Krennic directs that Galen's main team be killed for causing the security leak, Galen confesses that he is responsible. Jyn makes her presence known moments before Rebel bombers attack the facility, resulting in Galen being wounded. Jyn reunites with her father, only to have him die in her arms, before she escapes with her group on board a stolen Imperial cargo shuttle. Krennic visits Darth Vader, seeking his support and an audience with the Emperor, but Vader dismisses his appeal for recognition.
Jyn proposes a plan to steal the Death Star schematics using the Rebel fleet but fails to get approval from the Alliance Council. Frustrated at their inaction, Jyn's group is supported by a small squad of Rebels volunteers intent on raiding the databank themselves. Arriving at Scarif via the stolen Imperial ship, which Rook dubs "Rogue One", a disguised Jyn and Cassian enter the base with K-2SO while volunteers attack the resident Imperial garrison as a distraction. The Rebel fleet learns about the raid from intercepted Imperial communications and deploy in support. K-2SO sacrifices himself so Jyn and Cassian can retrieve the data. Îmwe is killed after activating the master switch to allow communication with the Rebel fleet. Rook is killed by a grenade just after informing the Rebel fleet that it must deactivate the shield surrounding the planet to allow the transmission of the schematics. Malbus dies in battle shortly after. Jyn and Cassian seize the schematics, but they are ambushed by Krennic, who shoots Cassian.
Krennic corners Jyn, declaring the Empire's victory, but Cassian, who has survived, shoots and wounds Krennic. Jyn transmits the schematics to the Rebel command ship. The Death Star enters Scarif's orbit, where Tarkin uses the weapon to destroy the Empire's base. Krennic dies in the resulting explosion, while Jyn and Cassian embrace on a beach before dying in the ensuing shockwave.
The Rebel fleet prepares to jump to hyperspace but are intercepted by Vader's flagship. Vader boards the command ship and kills several soldiers in his pursuit of the schematics, but a small starship escapes with them on board. Aboard the fleeing ship, Princess Leia declares that the schematics will provide hope for the Rebellion.
Wonder Woman Movie (2017)
- The Amazon princess and immortal warrior.[4] Gadot described her character as having "many strengths and powers, but at the end of the day she's a woman with a lot of emotional intelligence".[5] As to how her character will be different from her appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Gadot said "We go back 100 years to when she's more naive", further explaining, "She's this young idealist. She's pure. Very different to the experienced, super-confident, grown-up woman you've seen".[6] Gadot underwent a diet and training regimen, practiced different martial arts and gained 17 pounds of muscle for the role.[7][8] Élodie Yung and Olga Kurylenko had also auditioned for the role.[9] Gadot was previously offered the role as Faora Hu-Ul in Man of Steel but declined because she was pregnant at that time; this allowed her to be later cast as Wonder Woman in the film's sequel.[10] Gadot signed a three-picture deal and debuted inBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.[11] Emily Carey portrays young Diana.[12][13]
- A fighter pilot in the United States military and love interest of Diana Prince.[14][15] Pine described his character as a "rogue-ish, cynical realist who's seen the awful brutish nature of modern civilization" and added he's a "worldly guy, a charming guy".[16] Pine signed a multi-picture deal.[14]
- The Amazon queen of Themyscira and Diana's mother.[17] Nicole Kidman was in negotiations for the role but was forced to drop due to scheduling conflicts with Big Little Lies.[18] Nielsen had previously been considered for the role of Lara Lor-Van, Superman's mother, in Man of Steel.[19]

The Great Wall (Film)
During the Song dynasty, a few miles north of the Great Wall, William, Tovar, and three other survivors from a European mercenary group searching for black powder are pursued by Khitan bandits, who have already killed the rest of them. Upon escaping they seek refuge in a cave but are then attacked by a shadowy monster, leaving only William and Tovar alive, the former having slashed off the monster's hand. The next day, they stumble upon the Great Wall and are taken prisoner by Chinese soldiers, who are led by General Shao, Commander Lin, and Strategist Wang.
The officers have been preparing for a monster invasion which happens every sixty years, and have trained five special units: Bear Troop, Tiger Troop, Eagle Troop, Deer Troop and the Crane Troop.[6] However, they are shocked upon seeing the monster's hand, identified as a member of the Taotie species, as they believed the invasion was still weeks away. Suddenly, a wave of monsters attack the Great Wall, and the soldiers respond with their own special attacks.
The Eagle Troops specialized in archery,[6] the Tiger Troops in ballista and catapults launching burning rocks.[6] Lin's Crane Troop consisted exclusively of female soldiers jumping off the Wall to spear the monsters before being pulled back with elastic cords.[6] The heavily armed and armoured Bear Troops engaged in melee while the Deer Troop served as the cavalry.[6] The monsters are more intelligent and numerous than thought, and kill some of the defenders, but are repelled with William and Tovar's assistance, which earns the soldiers' respect. Later, William and Tovar meet Sir Ballard, a European who, like them, had ventured east twenty-five years ago in search of black powder, which might be sold for a fortune back in Europe. However, like them, Ballard was also taken prisoner and has been serving as an English and Latin teacher. The three foreigners discuss plans to steal black powder from the storeroom and flee while the soldiers are occupied by battle.
During the night, two monsters manage to climb the Great Wall and kill a guard. Shao and Lin lead a platoon to investigate, but they are ambushed and Shao is killed, leaving Lin in charge. Around this time, an envoy from the capital, Bianliang, arrives with an ancient scroll, which suggests that the monsters are pacified by magnets. To test this theory, William suggests that Lin should capture a monster alive using harpoons laced with sedatives, and delays his escape plans to help. At the next battle, several monsters are ensnared, and William bravely slides down a chain to ensure that an ensnared monster is not freed by other monsters. Tovar delays his escape to assist William, to Ballard's disappointment. The soldiers resist the monsters by fighting vertically along the Wall while tied to a chain, and by using spinning mechanical blades. As the monsters are too numerous, Lin resorts to using black powder rockets, whose existence had been a secret. After the battle, the captured monster is taken to the capital by the envoy. A short while later, a hole is discovered in the base of the Great Wall, which the monsters have used as a bypass, a reflection of their cleverness. While Lin investigates, Tovar and Ballard try to escape and knock William unconscious for resisting. Some distance away, Ballard betrays and abandons Tovar, but is himself captured by the Khitans, who, not knowing what the barrels of gunpowder were, accidentally ignite a barrel killing themselves and Ballard. Tovar reclaims the horses but is recaptured by Chinese riders.
Knowing that the monsters are nearing the capital, Lin orders the use of an unstable technology, namely hot-air balloons, to reach the capital more quickly. Most of the balloons catch fire and the soldiers fall to their deaths. William boards the last balloon with Wang, following Lin to the capital, where they find most of the city already ruined. However, they think of a plan to kill the queen monster by tying explosives to the captured monster from earlier and giving the monster meat to deliver to the queen. The three people climb a tower to shoot a black powder rocket to detonate the explosives, during which Wang is killed. Two rockets fail, but the third succeeds after William throws a magnetic stone at the queen right before the rocket hits. In the aftermath, Lin is promoted to regional General, and William forgoes a reward in exchange for freeing Tovar. The two are allowed to return to Europe and a contingent of cavalry are sent to protect them.
Kubo and the Two Strings
In ancient Japan, Kubo (Art Parkinson) is a one-eyed young boy who lives with his ill mother, Sariatu (Charlize Theron), in a cave atop a mountain. Every day he tells stories to village's locals by magically manipulating origami that moves under music played from Kubo'sshamisen. He tells the tale of a samurai warrior named Hanzo who is Kubo's missing father. When the town bell chimes signaling sunset, Kubo returns to his mother, as she explicitly warns him to not stay outside after dark or her sisters (Rooney Mara) and his grandfather the Moon King (Ralph Fiennes) will come to take his remaining eye (after they took his other eye when he was a baby).
One day, Kubo learns of an Obon festival which has a ceremony where family members communicate with deceased loved ones. He arrives at a cemetery and tries to speak to Hanzo, but leaves in anger when his father does not respond. As Kubo stays out after sundown, Sariatu's Sisters find him and attack. His mother arrives to fend them off. She sends Kubo away using her magic, telling him to find his father's magic armor. He takes a lock of her hair before she charges at her Sisters.
Kubo wakes up and meets Monkey (Charlize Theron), his little wooden snow monkey charm that was brought to life by his mother's magic. She informs him that his mother is dead, his village is destroyed, and he must move on to survive. The next morning, Monkey wakes Kubo and points out "Little Hanzo", one of Kubo's origami that design after his father and that folded himself and came to life at night. Little Hanzo shows Kubo and Monkey the way to pieces of a magic armor, where they are greeted by Beetle (Matthew McConaughey), an amnesiac samurai who was cursed to take the form of a beetle and claims to have been Hanzo's apprentice. He joins them on their quest when he finds out that Kubo is Hanzo's son. The Sisters discover Kubo is looking for his father's armor, and split up to find him.
Little Hanzo leads them to an underground cave known as the "Hall of Bones" where they find the "Sword Unbreakable" on the skull of a giant skeleton. The skeleton attacks them as they try to reclaim the Sword, but they defeat it and escape. Kubo uses his magic to create a boat out of fallen leaves, and they set sail across the "Long Lake" and arrive floating over the "Breastplate Impenetrable". The Breastplate lies below the lake in the "Garden of Eyes", where intruders are entranced and paralyzed by a giant monster's giant eyes by showing secrets before they are eaten by it. Beetle and Kubo dive in to retrieve the Breastplate. One of the Sisters appears and attacks Monkey. Monkey manages to defeat her, but is badly wounded in the process. Kubo recovers the Breastplate, but is immediately entranced by one of the eyes. In his entranced state, he has a revelation: Monkey is in fact his mother, her spirit reincarnated into physical form. Beetle rescues Kubo and the dilapidated boat is restored with Kubo and Monkey's own magic.
On a nearby island, the trio rest in a cave as Monkey explains with leaves, twigs, and a flower by using Kubo's shamisen that before she met Hanzo, she and her Sisters were sent to kill him. Instead, she fell in love with him, and gave birth to Kubo. Her Sisters and Kubo's grandfather felt betrayed and have since branded her as an enemy. Kubo has a dream in which he is greeted by Raiden (Ralph Fiennes), a blind old man spirit who shows him where to find the "Helmet Invulnerable", the final piece of armor. They head to his father's damaged fortress to claim the armor, but are ambushed by the remaining Sister who reveals that Beetle is in fact Kubo's father, Hanzo, whom they had cursed as retribution for "taking" their sister from them. Beetle is killed, and Monkey sacrifices herself to allow Kubo to obtain his shamisen and kill her Sister with it, breaking every string but one in the process. After Kubo learns that his village's bell is the Helmet, with Little Hanzo's help, he breaks the last string on his shamisen and uses his magic to fly back to his village.
After reclaiming the Helmet, he is greeted by Raiden, who is revealed to be his grandfather, the Moon King. He wants to take Kubo's other eye in order to join his "family" and make him immortal like him. Kubo refuses and an angered Raiden transforms into a monstrous dragon-like creature known as the "Moon Beast" and attacks. Despite landing several blows, Kubo is beaten and thrown into the village cemetery where the Moon Beast corners both him and the villagers. Kubo sheds the armor and re-strings his shamisen, using his mother's hair, his father's bowstring, and a strand of his own hair. He uses its magic to recruit the spirits of the deceased villagers, showing to his grandfather that memories are the strongest magic of all and can never be destroyed. Kubo uses the spirits to shield himself and the villagers from the Moon Beast and then engulfs him in their magic. The Moon King is defeated and becomes mortal, and in his human form has no recollection of who or what he was. The villagers show compassion and forgiveness and tell him that he was a man of many positive traits, thus convincing him that he was a good man.
At the end, Kubo is able to speak with his parents whose spirits appear beside him, as he sets their lanterns afloat across a lake, all the while seeing the deceased villagers' other lanterns transform into golden herons and flying to the spirit world into the sky.
